Come on Laura! This would do great for her confidence!
From what I've seen so far, Laura isn't going for everything but playing smartly and more consistently. But she's also hit a few sublime winners! Her opponent to be fair has also missed a fair bit.... but I think so far, this looks very promising from Robson.
I thought Laura was looking pretty good against Tara too. Nothing too flashy, but moving her around a lot, and, most importantly, going for everything and running down hopeless balls. She wants this :)
Considering she's playing a girl with a current ranking of 209 and career high of 98 last year, she is really putting in a good performance. *5-0 and nearly there
She was really solid today and wasn't making ridiculous errors here, there and everywhere.
Ignoring the unfortunate circumstances with the Moore match, this is becoming a great week for Laura. Definitely what she needs to build her confidence, game and overall consistency back up. Glad to see she also looks so determined out there!
Chuffed for Laura. Didn't catch today's match or yesterday's (really hope Tara is ok!!), but saw promising glimmers in Wednesday match against Lykina, and from what people are saying it sounds like she's improving further and most crucially of all is motivated (and not flat).
Easily Laura's best performance since return, and one of her (probable) two best results too (the Osaka result last year is hard to place).
Again, this is what she's needed for twelve months or more.
I'm going to spin a story of little fact and a lot of supposition: I think yesterdays events might have actually been very good for Laura. Crystallising everything that's at stake. Do you really want it? Seeing your good friend lying in distress puts things rather in perspective. Are you going to feel sorry for yourself, and hang your head when things don't go your way? Are you going to dishonour the effort of your friend? Or, are you going to take responsibility and work and commit, and make things happen again.
Laura seemed to walk a little taller today, get on with things, and just play the game; as if understanding that there was no room for moping, this is serious business, and you could be tomorrow, like Tara today. So, no more crutches; carpe diem! Win it for Tara, win it for yourself.
And hopefully, like all good stories, they'll all live happily ever after.
This is turning into a very impressive week for Laura.
First round on Wednesday, her timing on the groundstrokes really wasn't there but she toughed it out and got the win. Yesterday against Tara she had to battle again and was just starting to look good when the match was called to an abrupt halt. Today she has continued that improvement with an easy win including 11 of the last 12 games. I don't think anyone saw this coming when she lost the first set on Wednesday.
She plays the world 163 or 164 next in singles (they are next on the main court)
