Dare we hope ? Is another all GB Challenger final on the way ? Evo in great form against his old adversary Fratangelo who he has beaten 4 times in the last 12 months and Cam in his 1st ever challenger semi playing another SF debutant in Quigley. Certainly not out of the question, is it.
Good stuff if certainly no surprise ( and that says much about how Cam is progressing ).
With just 8 counters he is now into the GB top 10, having become the leading 'orrie'.
If he does get one win, making the final, he will probably jump from the 400s to the 200s this week.
The middle line of that covers exactly what I'd just come on here to say
With all due respect to Ed, Dom and even Bouncy (hehe), Cam must be the best GB prospect ever to go down the US college route. It's got to the stage where if he's playing anyone ranked outside the top 200, I'm a lot more surprised if he loses than if he wins.
Yes. I highlighted Cam's achievements this week (and counting) on the US college thread too, just for completeness.
But what I wonder is: is he 'the best GB prospect every to go down the US college route'?
Or is he the best example of a reasonable prospect who chose to go down the US college route and then BECAME one of our best prospects?
I know he came over at 17 and was signed up for the NTC, and got to be JWR 10. So he must have been decent-ish.
But he barely made it past R1 or R2 in the 10ks when he played them, at age 18, or so. And then had a couple of slightly better runs but nothing of any real note.
(Not that many of our other players do much better)
But it seems that he has really blossomed over there.
So, well done to Cam for knowing (extremely quickly, it seems) that the NTC was most definitely not for him (nor for anybody else, really). That's not obvious for a youngster as it was always feted as being such an achievement in itself.
And for looking around and knowing what would really suit him when he saw it.
The striking thing about Cam is how much his movement has improved I think. Has a lovely serve and can win points in many ways. I really enjoy watching him play!
