Harking back to Lloyd's R1 loss, I noticed earlier that Sarmiento defeated 6th seed Escobedo very comfortably (2&2) in the second round. So that should suggest that Lloyd came up against a player who is in form - Escobedo himself has experienced an upturn in results at challenger level recently.
Cam wins 7-6 7-6! was a break up in the 2nd set and had a chance to serve for the match but lost to love and lost 12 points in a row during that period. But finally got over the line in the TB
Cam did well to pull through in the end having been 5-1 (I think) up in that set. King obviously playing well to put out the in-form Nishioka, but certainly a good opportunity to get up inside the top 350 and hopefully negate the need to play qualifiers for too many more challengers
Am I right in thinking that any winner of this tournament gets a QWC to the US Open if ranked outside the cut. I'm sure this happened somewhere before and given that Cam is a US College player surely he'd have a chance. At present there are no top 250 players other than Dan through and only Frat left above 239 who still has to play. Get to be a good chance here surely?
Edit: If another American wins this tournament, they'll win the WC, as the highest total thus far is Ernesto Escobedo with 88 pts, and this tournament gives 100. Otherwise, Escobedo has it.
