Nadal & Muguruza gave a walkover in the mixed doubles, what a joke.
while the Brazilian pair, Marcelo Melo & Teliana Pereira (who she?), defeated the top seeds, Caroline Garcia & Nicolas Mahut, in two tie-breaks & Foggy & Roberta Vinci defeated the second seeds, also Frogs, Kristina Mladenovic & PHH, by 6-4 3-6 [10-8]!
So Jamie is a "way more experienced doubles player" than Andy, is he (interesting that he didn't say better...)? I know that comparisons can be invidious, but...
L16: (ALT) Andy Murray & Heather Watson CR 68 (2+66) defeated Carla Suárez & David Ferrer (ESP) CR 24 (12+12) by 3 & 3
whereas
L16: Jack Sock & Bethanie Mattek-Sands (USA) CR 34 (24+10) defeated Jamie Murray & Johanna Konta CR 17 (4+13) by 4 & 3

They didn't exactly give Jo much time to recover from the singles.
True, but I suspect Andy was on court for a fair bit longer playing Foggy than Johanna was playing Kerber (can't find any obvious source of match stats).

Correction: if you click on the "match completed" button on the official ITF Olympic site, it does show playing times. Andy's match against Foggy lasted two hours & seven minutes & Johanna's against Kerber an hour & four minutes, though I'll concede that that means Andy had a wee bit longer to "rest" after his.
Apologies - I hadn't realised the stream of Jo's singles I was watching was recorded! I thought Jo finished 30 minutes before this started. Mind you the BBC 'live guide' page still lists these mixed doubles matches as live now.

Their opponents might also have something to do with it: Mattek Sands has won the AO and RG mixed doubles and been a finalist in the USO; she's also won the AO and RG doubles. Jack Sock has won Wimbledon doubles and USO mixed doubles. David Ferrer last won a doubles title of any kind in 2005, and Carla Suarez Navarro has never won a major doubles title or so much as reached a mixed doubles final.

It's clearly better for the victor, but in all honesty, it seems really hard to have a match like that in the Olympics QF decided by a tie-breaker. Good luck to Mr Murray in the next round - but also well done to Steve Johnson.
Edit: Then again, I hadn't realised that Mr Johnson has the bronze medal match yet to play today. So maybe he's glad it was a tie-breaker. Today's schedule very hard on both of them and Nadal.

Final set TBs - I'm nothing if not consistent in this.
Better to my mind a final set TB than that absolute marathon final set in the Federer vs Del Porto 2012 Olympics SF. Though it's long been clear it's one of these things that certainly divides opinion when discussed re Wimbledon.
Anyway, I wish where the Olympics has gone may Wimbledon consider treading ... ( or at the very least cut things off at say 12-12 ). I'm not holding my breath though.
Bit close for comfort , but at least he's through.
