Doubles really is a lottery. The more I watch it the more I get that feeling. 70 per cent random/luck 30 per cent skill.
I'm not a huge doubles lover though sometimes do get into matches, and don't get me started again on mixed and particularly mixed at the Olympics. But I really can't see how such figures remotely tie in with reality, particularly as here in best of three set matches with 'proper scoring'.
And I don't think your further reference to the final point "a net cord decides the match" in the Andy / Jamie loss advances you far. There were rather a lot of other points in the match, which had the same scoring system as singles, and I believe you can get net cords in singles as well, e.g. final point in the Del Potro vs Djokovic match. Few sports are without occasional bits of luck.

Kyle was also up to 5-2 I think, in the second, and lost 5 straight games to cede the match.
I'm sure he'll be very disappointed, but hopefully not despondent.

Not that it changes the result but he was only 4-2 up then back to 4-4. Disappointing yes, but more good experience in the bank. We all know that Kyle still has a lot of aspects to his game that can improve. I see that as a positive.

Thanks for clarifying that Bob, I only had a half an eye on it really. And yes, I'm not going to start panicking. Kyle is still raw in a lot of ways and, like any player, perfectly capable of having an off day. That's sport.
I wouldn't have expected Jo to enter unless she and Heather loose their women's doubles tonight and it happens before the sign in. She wouldn't play 3 matches a day.
Heather and either Andy or Jamie might be have the ranking to get in.
On ranking probably Jamie and Jo the best placed to make the cut, if Jo is not keen then I would imagine Jamie's ranking might swing it for Heather. Can't see two teams though and I would expect Andy to do the decent thing and let his brother take the slot if it comes to that so that they both have a shot at a medal.

I think you are probably right and given the choice Andy would step aside but for me this again represents my problem with this. It's not exactly a talent based inclusion and kind of weakens the argument for having it included here at all. Along with the fact doubles is....well I won't bore you all again when my opinions are clear on this. Nothing against Jamie of course who is a great ambassador for GB.
Looking back Laura Robson winning an Olympic Silver medal tells you whats wrong with everything when a player barely with any titles gets one. She won a 10k singles of course....
