Hev broken twice to love, and generally well below her form of yesterday. Andy sluggish too. They were a break up, having broken Bopanna, but Mirza's serve held firm throughout, and they conceded the first set 4-6
Well beaten 64 64. Not as tight as score might suggest.
So disappointing. Was a difficult draw but they were really poor tonight. Andy mentally fatigued I'm sure as he was well below par, shocker of a service game to get broken in the second. If Hev had served as well in the first as in the second could have been different perhaps.
Frustrating one as they could have won this whole thing.
Quite routine in the end. Neither of the GB team played terribly well for more than a couple of points here and there.
Just Andy left then.
With Naomi in WTT, Hev here, Tara indisposed, there's no Brit in Cincy qualies. If Jo withdraws from MD - which would be my counsel given her post Wimbledon exertions - it will be a very quiet week next week, and all rather after the Lord Mayor's show.
The Indian pair were quite good today, but an on form Andy and Heather would probably have had enough. To be fair, Andy was struggling for form in the singles and having had to dig deep to win that one it was always going to be tough to go to the well again for the doubles. They couldn't get anything going on Mirza's service games at all, which made it too much of a challenge.
Simply stupendous first two sets in the gold medal match. Puig and Kerber playing one of the best matches this season, and maybe for several seasons. May the decider live up to what has gone before!
It's a fairytale ending! An absolutely astonishing, fabulous, impossible fairytale ending.
Some of the best tennis you'll see in many a year, an amazing match, and Monica Puig is the Olympic champion in a truly Olympian manner. Line after line after line. Winner after winner. Angie played well and was beaten fair and square, she did amazingly, amazingly well to get a set.
People often say on occasions like this that "even Serena at her best would have struggled with that". I never quite believe it. Tonight it was true.
Congratulations to Monica Puig, a jaw dropping, sensational performance.
Puerto Rico, with all it's troubles, has it's first ever Olympic Champion
It was a great final and an inspired performance from Monica Puig - and fantastic to see a champion no-one could have predicted and making history for her country.
With the Nadal - Del Potro match too this has been an excellent day of Olympic tennis (not to mention Andy making the final!)
Amazing. Well done, Ms Puig. And well done Venus Williams - about to become the first woman to get a medal in each of the Olympic tennis competitions. At 36.

Yes. As the family decision for the TV set was Nadal-de Potro, I actually watched some tennis today. And though it was a cracking match, just wonderful.
And then, before going to bed, thought I'd watch a couple of points of the women's final - and an hour later I was still there glued to the set.
Just the best women's match I've watched in ages, ages, ages. Huge congrats to Monica, Puerto Rico, and Angie Kerber too.
