Katie's retired. I hope she's OK.

I have the result reported as Katy winning by retirement according to Twitter I'm assuming that's an error then.

Oops, no my bad. My LS had 1-0 to the Japanese player as it's header and match over by retirement, but it was just the sets.

Goody.

It's marked as a KD win on the ITF livescores.

3 different sources say she won 4-6, 1-2. Unless of course they are all using the same source and are wrong but the fact they have her score first in that format is a hood sign for us...

Katy has tweeted that it was she who retired.

Sadly Kuwata won by retirement, just watched the video back, doesn't look anything serious, but during the changeover at 1-2, and off camera, coverage were running ads during the changeover, we just see Katy shake the umpires hand, and then he calls the score.

Grr, these players who beat Brits and then retire in their next match !

Seriously, I do hope that it is indeed nothing serious so that it can remain a positive week for Katy.

Em loses her doubles 57 64 10-3 to Chang/Mueller who have won 9 of their last 10 matches.

Had a sudden death point for 5-3* second set.

Failing to meaningfully defend any title points will see her drop to about 180.

I strongly believe that clubs and tournaments that organise host families for tennis players should get as much publicity as possible.

It's a good thing for everyone, the obvious thing to do (I've hosted players - it's fun - also learnt quite a lot about drug-taking in certain countries(!), as well as nicer things too).

So (assuming I've understood it right) well done, Lexington. And well done Emily for posting about it:

Judging from comments over the years, quite a lot of the US ITF tournaments do this - with some players staying with the same families several years running. It does seem a lovely idea and can't be that difficult to organise, especially when tournaments are hosted by clubs. Do any here do it?

Shrewsbury and Ilkley did house some players with families.
