Solid win for Katy. Laura's defeat today a lot more understandable and expected than her struggles in the earlier rounds - she can't keep on giving away double figures in double faults though.

It is pretty much the result I was expecting, good win for Katy. But Laura's first serve percentage was a lot better, although the second serve was still poor - only won 6 points out of 21.

Straightforward, and hopefully a launch pad for Katy this week, as for Laura, watched her doubles last night, and she's lost so much mph on all her shots, but at least she's had a lot of court time this week. You do wonder how much longer Laura can carry on playing at this standard, without making a big decision.

It's a psychological thing isn't it... If she continues like this week, she's playing the same kind of standard Tara and Naomi have played for most of their careers - it's whether she's willing to wait around for the big break like they have done after years of slogging away. I think it will take a lot more to deter her than this. We'll see :)

Thing is I wouldn't think Laura would see it as a particularly big break to improve to be a top 200 player or maybe even top 100 player, real progress even as it would be. She will ultimately want more.

However, still in spite of everything, I am with you in that for some reason I don't see her going away anytime soon.

Laura should certainly carry on at this level and in 25ks - she'll be MD seeded next week. Competitive today, and more competitive v Bai in FQR than Oudin managed today in R1. She's had a reasonable week; and involved in competitive tennis matches for the first time since her comeback - most of her SR WTA matches were non-contests.

She's played 4 singles matches here - which was taking her a couple of months earlier in the year; and many of her current problems can only improve if she gets in a lot of court-time. She has 10x the YTD prizemoney of other competitors here to underwrite a sojourn at the lower levels, and invest in her tennis-playing career.

Agree that this has been a good week for her re-development. Well done, and keep on slogging. She has the gifts: it's getting matchplay and self-belief back.

Well done Katy :D
And yes good matchcourt time for Laura this week to hopefully hold her in good stead for next week :)

Another very decent effort by Em for whom it's also been a useful week on the singles front.
With more to come in the dubs hopefully :)

Looks like Mike C knew what he was talking about....

Pleased for Katy.- I make that to be her second biggest pointing event of the year.

And, as people have said, looked at coolly and rationally, that's Laura's best week for a while - good, competitive scores; two wins; near misses. Whether she'll see it that way is another question, however.

All being well Mandy, Laura and Katy all being so close to each other in the rankings will act as a spur for all 3 in the "race" to be GB #5 :)
