Week 30 - ITF($50,000) - Kentucky Bank Tennis Ch., Lexington, KY (USA) - Hard

Getting three in is really good news. And all four are scheduled to play doubles later today as well - if they can still stand !

Ironically both Laura and Katy would be better off if they had been beaten easily rather than losing 2hr 40min matches. At least they play each other which is a really good draw for both.

Laura will have played a lot of tennis in the past few days which will hopefully do her more good in the long run than a string of heavy R1 losses at Tour level.

When was the time Laura played 4 singles matches in one tournament. Must be at least 3 years?

Almost exactly. Wimbledon 2013, where she played four singles, losing eventually of course to Kanepi in R16.
She then played 3 at the US Open 2013, and, as indicated above, also 3 in Guangzhou 2013 in mid-September 2013, which was the last time before this week.

As for Laura, is this the first week since her return that she has won two games on the bounce in the same event?

She won two qualifying matches in Sunrise in January, this is the first time since.

Who do we want to go through if any of the Brits? Freya might not be worth putting into the md if her back is paining her.

I'm told by someone who's there (though not Freya or anyone on her team, so not 100% sure) that her back wasn't the problem, she just had a bad day (which must have got worse when the other three all got LLs and she missed out)

So we basically all agree that Katy is most deserving, after that anyone's guess. I wonder whether the 4 Brits will get together and decide which 2 are the best equipped to go forward, so that only 2 names are put forward for the draw.

LOL GB team spirit may be much better than it was a few years ago but I think they're all competitive enough to ensure that none of them would have been feeling quite THAT charitable! Though if one of them really had been injured/exhausted, that might have been a different matter.

Good to hear that Freya's Ok, and thanks for getting hold of the draw information. I nearly tweeted the Gosling tennis coach, who I assume is travelling with Katy to find out more information, but you managed to get hold of it in double quick time, so much appreciated.

Important start to the title defence. Step up in next round against a pair who've won lots of matches together recently
