After two good serving displays, sadly it was more business as usual on that from from Em today, but looks like she returned well and it was closer than I expected. Perhaps some small glimmer that she's picking up her level after a really torrid time of it.
But of course it's gutting to miss 5 set points, although only one was on her own serve (one at 5-4* and then 3 in the breaker from 6-3* and the finally at 7-6* (that one saved with an ace))
I suspect a 9am start was too early for Em anyway - usually needs a couple of double espressos to get going and they won't have kicked in at that time in the morning :-p
We're guaranteed two through to the main draw regardless of what happens as a result of the LLs, but it would be nice to see Katy and Laura tough their matches out.

Really didn't expect that but as I say I know nothing about her opponent so perhaps underestimated her.
Freya had lost to Ferrando last year (Loughborough) but that was much closer, 6-3 in the 3rd and Freya has generally improved since then, so either the Italian had an unusually good day and Freya an unusually bad one or something is wrong

2 down and the other 2 in trouble now as well 2nd set slipping away from Laura and Katy fighting in the third. Would be very unlucky if all 4 lost and the LL spot went to Emily rather than those that might have a chance on the tournament.

Freya retired at Imola 2 weeks ago - maybe it was less tactical than some suspected. Certainly far from her best today.
