Week 30 - ATP Masters 1000 - Rogers Cup - Toronto, Canada (hard)

L64:  (WC) Steven Diez (CAN) WR 190 (= CH) vs Kyle Edmund WR 68 (CH = 67 earlier this month)

Kyle will almost certainly face the 12th seed, Bernie Tomic, in the next round, should he win through.

R1:  BYE vs (2) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 13 (5+8)

The Bryans are the top seeds.  Interestingly, NoDjo has teamed up with Nenad Zimonjic & they are in Jamie's/Bruno's quarter of the draw.  The unfortunate task of playing NoDjo & Zimonjic falls to Adil Shamasdin, who has a wild card with his compatriot, Philip Bester.

So we are presumably going to see a Djokovic / Zimonjic pairing at the Olympics.

Maybe we will have some upgraded GB vs Serbia competition there.

Djokovic and Zimonjic aren't the only ones looking ahead to Rio for the doubles here, Nestor and Pospisil, Cilic and Draganja and Mergea and Tecau are also playing with each other here and also at Rio.

Surprised Melo & Soares not playing here with it being a home Olympics.

Second set down the pan 3-6. Did not expect this.

From 5-0*, Kyle decided to warm up for the decider by taking 3 games in a row but went on to lose that set 6-3.

Might be a bit of "after the lord mayor's show" in today's performance following his DC exploits. Half way around the world, change of surface against a Canadian on home soil. Hoping Kyle can see it through anyway.

We tend to say that DC will spur players to play better on tour, but it doesn't always work that way. James and now Kyle.

This would be a poor poor result if he loses this, the reason I'm not convinced he is ready to make the step up yet.

You look at Evans in Washington last week by comparison.

Now a break down in the 3rd.

This was......not in the script.....

I suspect the phrase 'emotional letdown' is pretty apt here, and lack of preparation also. Still think Kyle will turn it around.
