Laura - v - Tara

Seemed one way traffic for the first few games, but now it is quite a contest.

First set to Laura 7-5.

Tara 'ahead' in DFs 9-6, bit disappointing given such a big improvement in the DF department in recent times.

Tara's serve seems to have regressed. Perhaps it was better on the grass?

No offence to Tara but I feel Laura needs this more.

Stats were very similar for a long time, both serving around 50%, but Tara seems to have got worse and Laura did improvefor a while. But second set looks pretty bad for both of them. I wish I could see the full stats, rather than just what the ITF shows

Laura 7-5 1-4*

BPs : 4/10 vs 5/7
Aces : 0 vs 4

It seems pretty messy. Is it windy in Sacramento or something ?

I was wondering about that given it generally shouldn't be more difficult to place one out of two serves into a hard court serve box as opposed to a grass court serve box.

One set all, 7-5 2-6, and apparently 3 games in a row without a DF.

Edit : No, Tara served one DF ( but hey that's in 2 service games ) and 'leads' 14-9.

It doesn't look that windy over on the stadium court, mind you that is a bit of a topsy-turvey match as well, although the serving percentages are much, much higher

A year ago today, in a North American $50K, Laura knocked out the number two seed in the third set (in, for my money, still her best result since returning - defeating Osaka).
That was the last match she has won in a deciding set. Will she celebrate or rue the anniversary?

The mind boggles at how ugly this match might be given those embarrassing double fault tallies

Well done, Tara.

Tara prevails 5-7 6-2 6-4
Stats not flattering to either.
Laura needing to get matches done in straights is a complication she could do without.
Not the draw either would have wanted, but if Tara can now match her seeding it will be a tidy haul.
