It could be quite close with the match being played on a hard court, but Tara has to be the favourite. Hopefully Freya is over all her recent injury setbacks.

Interesting indeed. Given Tara's recent form, this could be a tough match.

You have to feel for Laura, she's had some tough draws in the last few months - Azerenka, Kerber, Brengle, Petkovic, McHale, Babos

Tara has made the GB #4 slot her own over the grass court season; will be very interesting to see how this one against Laura plays out.
Yep, fingers crossed Freya is over her injury scare

If Freya can pick up her form from the Far East I think we can be optimistic.

Tara v Laura, good luck to them both, my only hope is that they both perform well.

I assume Harriet didn't make qualifying?

Looks like Harriet withdrew after retiring last week. Hope that she will soon be back.

Would the apropriate team name for the number 1 seeded team be Moostach?

Yes, noted on ITF site as LWQ

Yes great shame for Harriet, I was hoping it was a part tactical retirement in Winnipeg and we would see her here. It would be good to see her recover quickly and make the most a fine last couple of months,

Answers on a postcard ...

R1: (1) An-Sophie Mestach (BEL) & Tara Moore CR 246 (76+170) vs Alexandra Facey & Kat Facey (USA/USA) CR 1162 (581+581), 23 to twins

R1: (4) Freya Christie & Laura Robson CR 619 (316+303) vs (WC) Isabella Kling & Laura McGaffigan (SWE/USA) UNR, neither ever ranked, aged 38 & 31 respectively.

No sign of Conny here this week, but Tara seems to have found a decent partner.

Very interesting first round match up, Tara has the form and Laura has the history with a 3-0 H2H. Would have been better as a match later in the tournament though, there were plenty of better draws out there. Good chance for Freya if fully fit.

No clue what Tara is like on hard. The match is a shame. I agree Robbo's had a bad set of draws of late, abit like her first career.

Connie is playing a 25k on clay in Germany. Her favourate surface.

Wish the Brit girls wouldn't all rush to the same event. In the UK it makes sense as there are WCs to be had. Overseas they just get in each others way.

Both Tara and Laura could have won the R1 here. Now they're denying each other valuable points. confuse

I think this is a good event for them, and certainly not to be put off by what was the outside chance that has transpired of them having a GB vs GB early meeting ( very outside with just 3 main draw competitors )

In general I'd say that while it's nice to have the variety of foreign competition GB vs GB meetings rankingswise are probably in general as helpful as unhelpful and often represent good draws for at least one of the players. Some might consider that that is the case here. Though it probably could be much better given Tara is seeded.

Plus although players make friends from many places a little GB camaraderie is maybe at times no bad thing ( if not meeting! ) for well being and hence a possible extra % in performance.
