I suppose the one potential positive is that if we do squeak it out 3-2 with Kyle winning a match on Day 1 and potentially a doubles win without Andy it will be a huge boost for the future. The narrative up until now has been that Andy has to score 3 points for us to stand a chance against the better teams but if we can do it with Andy just winning 1 singles rubber it bodes well for the future.
That's a big if. I dearly hope that GB does win (3-2, 4-1 or in any other combination!) But the two non-AM singles matches are very uncertain, and I am not at all sanguine about the doubles. I can't see Andy Murray playing, and Dan Evans, who - at a guess is the most likely partner - is someone with whom Jamie Murray has never played (to the best of my knowledge) a competitive match. He isn't as strong in doubles as in singles, and he is bound to be the main target in the match. Anyone who could get through five sets of Stan Wawrinka's serve is clearly able to return, which is the thing Jamie Murray tends to say he most looks for in a partner, but a GB victory doesn't feel at all certain.
I honestly don't see the logic of including Evo in the final squad. Once it was decided that Kyle would play on Day 1 (where he looked all but certain to play Pella or Delbonis) it would have made far more sense to include Dom to beef up our doubles strength, especially as Andy playing a lengthy 5 setter against Del Potro wasn't exactly a huge shock.
Well, yes, if I were making the decisions, adding in Dom Inglot would have been my call. It has always felt very complex, because the doubles point had the potential to be so vital and counting on AM to play all three days with JMDP in the line-up felt very risky. Then again, I couldn't win a tournament held in the local park, and Leon Smith has won the Davis Cup. On a happier note, Kyle Edmund's improvement is staggering.

Pella has certainly played better than I expected but he isn't doing anything spectacular. Kyle can still turn this round if he cuts down the unforced errors.
After all the down-putting of Pella, he's been very impressive in doing what needs to be done.
But not finished yet....
Yes, but the *3-2 game in the third set that turned the match was an absolute gift from Kyle.
Indeed, and it's something Kyle needs to address. But in a five set match, that's part parcel of the process i.e. waiting for a chance, knowing it'll probable come, AND THEN capitalising on it and making the other one suffer for it.
However, getting near the finish line will be trickier for him (hopefully !)
