Week 29 - USA F24 ($25,000) - Godfrey, IL (Hard)

Luke got broken at 5-3....:(

Not enough first serves....

But then had a MP on Mena's serve...

But couldn't get it....

Now 5-5

Luke was a break up in the decider but we are back on serve at the business end of the set.

Luke leads 6-5*

Luke lost the TB easily.

His first serve percentage is horrible, for a male tennis player, well under 45%; puts himself under real pressure.

A real shame as the TB runs away from Luke and he loses it 7-1

It has been a good week for Luke but it was so close to being so much better. In many ways, today's performance against a muuch higher ranked opponent may have been his best of the week despite getting pipped at the post. Let's hope however that this is a sign of things to come.

Yes. It'll stick in his throat, especially having had a MP at 5-4. And having served for it at 5-3.

But, as you say, that's a way more positive position to be in than in many of the tournaments he's been in this year.

So good week, Luke. (And maybe think about a strategy for the first serve ???)

Pity, but that does look a decent effort, as Bob says maybe his best of the week and looks as if in general play very competitive given first serve accuracy below 50% in all three sets.

Always of course difficult without seeing to know who played how and in particular that period as the natch so turned in the latter part of the third set and TB. But big disappointment to lose from the position he got himself to.

Hopefully he can take positives, he has some very welcome decent points on the board this week and as noted is back in the top 500.

Incidentally ITF score confirms the second set as 6-2 as SC's own earlier comentary here.
