The commentator was saying how Dan had done it the hard way through futures and challengers in the last 18 months and how all those wins are paying dividends now in terms of his confidence.

Good win that for Dan. Be interesting to see where Dan is at after the US Open. Could be some exciting times!

Certainly now at apparently #52 in the live race it is looking very good for top 50 by year end. Though the way he's going it might be quite a bit sooner.

As you say, looking good in the live race, but still a couple of hundred points to go in the rankings. Just a couple of good tournaments needed and he'll be there.

Will be a bit more than that. He has 97 points to defend (not including the 27 he has already defended and surpassed this week) before early November. So probably needs c. 300 points between now and early November. Then has another 88 to defend in November. His rise so far has been extraordinary but largely unfettered by defending anything, from now we are into 'new Dan' era (I got mocked when I first used phrase 'new Dan') and so there will be downs as well as ups.

Probably needs 400 points (on top of this week's 45) this year to go into Australian Open as Top 50 player. Come on Dan

It is though indeed just about a couple of hundred more points if he gets them in early ( could of course in theory even get them this week! ). After this week he has only 8 points to defend before 22nd August

In general he is going at the rate this season to defend these points you refer to and rather more and continue to move up the overall rankings, hence why he is at #52 in the live race on 616 points.

Of couse, that is just extrapolating out and he could have a dip as happens to most at times. But clearly top 50 in the coming months is an extremely realistic possibility.

Congrats by the way on the 'new Dan' reference as someone who was rather less than convinced. Far from starting from now the 'new Dan' era has been going for a good while, with all the ranking results, and it has been great to see

I agree. I meant that we are now a year on from start of 'New Dan' era so now has serious points to defend, but I didn't explain myself properly.

It is also self-evident that if he's #52 in race he a) is almost there and b) needs v slightly stronger next few months than last 6- but I suspect that hard-court swing will suit him great fitness/ health permitting.

Tough start, 0-5 down, now brought it back to 1-5, but looks like first set gone in a puff of smoke.

Never give up on Evo though, seen him trounced in one set and then come flying back before. Here's hoping.
