Despite the Canadian's inexperience and age, I make that a very good, match tough, win for Harriet, especially so considering the progress of the match.
Andreescu's coach (Nathalie Tauziat) knows a thing or two about tennis, and says her current charge is better in every department than her other famous charge (Bouchard) was at the same stage.
Well done Harriet

What a fighter Harriet is. Brilliant!

And Em clings on despite a shaky performance to win her doubles on her birthday. Didn't hold serve the whole match though.

Super fightback and two TB victories. Super clutch matchplay Harriet as with quite a number of Brits recently ( not that this is so surprising as some seem to think )

As well as having a JCH 11 Di Lorenzo has come through the #1 seed ( Julia Glushko ) section, beating she who beat she ... So could be another real test, but Harriet is clearly playing very well and now looking like maybe one more win from her CH 345.

The standard of this 25k is deep. The Canadian clutch of youngsters coming through on both sides male and female is pretty impressive.

Having to play Andreescu and Robillard-Millette both top 10 juniors before turning 17 reflects that hidden depth interms of ATP ranking that you see on the summer men's North American ITF swing due to the influx of top college boys players. Earlier physical maturation of the girls allows top juniors to do the same.

No disrespect to Julia Glushko but at 26 she probably doesn't reflect the same cohort of junior in terms of natural ability (although probably does Di-Lorenzo JCH 11 @ 17.5). She has however had a very interesting journey, an economic migrant to Israel from the Ukraine at 8 with her parents teaching at a tennis centre (JCH 10 at 17.5) and then a pseudo 2 years army national service around tennis comitments followed by College at Duke where her doubles partner was an Israeli Arab. Although her story is not unique, Regardless of how her career goes from this point she has already lived a more varied and diverse life than 90% of those on tour!

Sorry I digress my point is that perversely I feel Harriet has probably faced a sterner test despite not having to go through the no1 seed.

There have coincidentally been quite a number of retirals by Brits over the last couple of weeks or so.

Hope it is something that can be sorted / sorts itself fairly quickly for Harriet.

Hope shes ok.

Em and Olivia pick up a great 76(4) 36 10-7 win over the NCAA champs from 2-6 down in the MTB. Em defending a lot of points over the next few weeks.

Disappointing for Harriet, I hope she is fit enough to make the most of her fine form in Sacremento.
