Week 28 - ATP 250 - Hall of Fame Open, Newport, RI (grass)

Got 180 more at Wimbledon than last year; 90 in the SF, were it to happen, would mean a net gain over the period. More would be even better. And then he has nothing to defend through the US Open.

I'm guessing it's Weintraub who gets in on the LL spot?

He is the highest ranked player to lose in the final round of qualies and Pospisil has withdrew.

Weintraub did indeed get the LL spot, but I don't know if that's because he's highest ranked or whether it's names in a hat, I can never remember the rules, somewhat frustratingly!

They are drawn, from the ranked players first, then from the unranked players. (From ITF rulebook)

It's not an ITF tournament  confuse

Presumably if it is a draw it's from a limited pool such as the top 3 or 4 ranked losers in the FQR.

Anyway if anyone can be definitive I promise to pay attention

This is an ATP event, so the ATP rulebook applies. If the LL spot appeared after qualifying was completed, then it is simply based on the rankings used at the time of qualifying seeding (i.e. Weintraub, Barton, Klein, Cox), otherwise the top 2 (Weintraub and Barton) are randomly drawn for the LL place.

Me Bad, of course it is ATP, not ITF.

But a similar rule applies, drawn from the top ranked players with one more in the draw than the number of vacancies.

They may be the seeds, but I think the Skupskis are likely to have to be near the top of their form against Baker & Ram. Seems a toughie.

There were no breaks of serve in the Skupskis' R1 match, but they got the job done in the TBs.

Jonny & Adil make mincemeat of Klein & Sugita, as, indeed, they should:

QF:  Jonny Marray & Adil Shamasdin CR 158 (73+85) defeated Brydan Klein & Yuichi Sugita (JPN) CR 1149 (185+964) by 1 & 2

SF:  Jonny Marray & Adil Shamasdin CR 158 (73+85) vs (4) Purav Raja & Divij Sharan (IND/IND) CR 203 (99+104)

Another forty-five points: all to the good. Tough match next, but not unwinnable.

Skupskis were broken to trail 4-5* but have just broken straight back.

The brothers make it count too, in the 1st set, by winning the TB 7-4. Come on guys.

Now wouldn't it be great to have Brits v Brit in the final.

It's been a good week all round for our doubles players in Newport.
