Weeks 26 & 27 - Wimbledon 2016 (grass) - mixed doubles

Lovely match to watch. Heather played some fantastic stuff. The pair of them have an infectious joy about them. Hopefully this happy ending with galvanise Heather.

Brilliant play from Heather.

And the first Finn to ever win a Grand Slam title, I think I heard ?

Bravo to both !

So 6 Wimbledon champions, 3 Tour de France jerseys, Mens & Womens European relay golds & a British Grand Prix.

Not a bad weekend so far. I now find myself in the decidedly odd position of wanting to see a French win to top it all off.

Hev really turns up for the finals, she was brilliant and Henri at times was as well.

A bit hard to justify, I know, but that win made me smile even more than Andy's did!

If only Hev can channel that feeling into the matches that, in ranking point terms, really matter.

totally agree steven. I missed Andy's first win whilst living down under. Loved seeing him win today (for my first time) but Heathers (and Henri's) win was a fairy tail ending. similar to Jon Marry a few years ago. Weirdly I just had a gut feeling that we were going to have multiple winners again, with Andy being the pied piper. call me mystic meg

Heather really was immense today :D
Seeing her so happy was a brilliant after her singles disappointment (and fine). Here's hoping she can bottle that level and take it with her for the rest of the year :)

For the record, since I've only just discovered that my thread was moved from the men's to the women's forum (you could at least have found a way of flagging it, wolf! furious ):

Final:  Henri Kontinen (FIN) & Heather Watson CR 154 (35+119) defeated (15) Robert Farah & Anna-Lena Grönefeld (COL/GER) CR 55 (28+27) by 7-6(5) 6-4  ban-woohoo.gif

Was there ever such a day for a GB tennis fan? Well done to Heather Watson - and to the first Finnish GS champion. How delightful to see Ms Watson so happy. If there is an equivalent to this board in Finland, I hope they are as happy as we are. And quite a day, too, for players who have had illnesses/injuries that can be career-threatening - good things can still happen!

But honestly: when I joined this board, if anyone had said that we would see five GB Wimbledon champions in a tournament, four of them in one day - that Centre Court would be packed out even after the GB player won the Men's Championship ... because we would need to wait for a GB woman to win the Mixed Doubles - I think most people would have said that one was well-meaning, but a bit mad. A day which really surpassed all possible expectations. Thanks to Andy Murray, Heather Watson, Gordon Reid, Alfie Hewett, and Jordanne Whiley for making it do so. May they enjoy it thoroughly.

Agree with everything there Spectator. Couldn't stop thinking about Heather's win last night. It was such an unexpected bonus. Despite the rain Wimbledon has been great fun this year with a few disappointments but some great wins to celebrate. Marcus & Dan entertained, unexpected doubles wins but tough losses, progress from the juniors, a different finalist but mostly, lots of champions.

Sorry? What was that? Novak who?

I think Hev smiled/laughed after every single point. It was heartwarming to watch her having such a good time, so I can relate to that!
