Weeks 26 & 27 - Wimbledon 2016 (grass) - doubles

Do we get a reciprocal one next year? Dom Inglot+ and Jamie Murray+ in the Roland Garros finals?

Now there's a thought! smile  Trouble is that, by then, the negotiations for the UK's withdrawal from the EU could be quite well advanced &, the French being very political animals & probably secretly delighted finally to see the back of us, they are highly unlikely to be disposed to be seen to be doing us any favours on any front, even in sport! hmm

I reckon we could have a all French final here, what a good QF line up though.

Lots of GB finalists this time - and congratulations to the GB champions, Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett. To win they needed to beat the top seeds, the much-decorated Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer. And they did it: 4-6 6-1 7-6 (8-6). Super stuff.

So the top seeds, PHH & Mahut, take the title in straight sets, 6-4 7-6(1) 6-3, no doubt to Spectator's delight.

To lots of people's delight, if Twitter is any indicator: there's something about seeing someone who was for so long defined in terms of a Wimbledon loss becoming a champion on Centre Court that is quite pleasing. But well done by both teams - good to see ERV and Benneteau back and winning together, too (though they might have had the courtesy to lose their QF ....). Overall a good doubles tournament on lots of fronts: good GB interest with the first Skupski Bros GS win, good showing by Jonny Marray+, good - if not quite as good as last year - showing by Jamie Murray+. And lots of teams playing really well, good blend of new and old pairings having success, some very exciting five-set matches ....

Adding something I just saw, a quote from Benneteau, who was out last year with a serious injury: "A year ago, after my operation, when I took my first steps, and was bent double, I said to myself, 'Well, we're a long way from Centre Court at Wimbledon." They've come a long way.
