That's an agonising defeat on so many levels as not only was it really close Heather will know she should have won this. Even playing as far below her best as she did, it still took it to 10-12 in the deciding set.

Beck scarcely deserved her win with the tentative tennis she played throughout but someone had to win it. She played Heather's match points well but that was about the only positive tennis she played. If she makes it through round two, I have a good idea what will happen if she serves those 65mph serves up to Serena.

With round 1 now finally over a summary of British results (Men & Women):

Seed v Non-Seed: 2-0 (Murray and Konta both winning comfortably)
Non-Seed v Seed: 0-6 (though the seeds faced were no.s 1,2,4,7,11 & 17 so any win would have required a spectacular performance)
Non-Seed v Non-Seed: 3-4 (all Brits were outranked so 3-4 is a good effort. Brilliant wins for Willis & Moore, though Edmund and Watson lost matches where rankings were close)

Thought Heather was going to win that one at the end there but the 20th game of the set was a killer :(

I thought that was going to be the ugliest win ever by a British player, but not to be. It seems like since she claimed that Olympics spot, her game has just disappeared completely. Instead of getting a release after making the cut, her game has fallen off a cliff, such a shame, because I felt she was heading for a career year, and into the top 30, gutting.

In theory in singles yes being a top half R2 match. But 5 of them couldn't even be played today, because of players still playing R1 matches. And as they are still in catch up mode Tara's was one of 3 others, including Serena's, to be held over. A consideration will have been that the two other R2 matches in that very top section of the draw ( along with Serena's and Tara's ) couldn't be played today. And indeed I now see that Putinseva vs Pavlyuchenkova ( the other unplayed match that could have been ) is also near the top of the draw and also their next prospective opponent couldn't play R2 today. Indeed they are the only 3 R2 matches in that position. The long and short of all that ( which is no doubt more than you or anyone else wanted to know ) is that there is a bit of method going on.

Given they are also getting doubles R1 matches going I then thought maybe Taco were on today's schedule, but apparently not.
