Yet more very clear indication that the LTA really need to get behind Ryan and Jay too.
While no doubt elements of support can be pointed to, there does seem a strange reluctance to fully get in behind them. These guys are really good and there isn't exactly a glut of relatively really good juniors and young seniors. Give them support !
One more victory to report as Ewan comes from a set down to claim his place in round 2 against the top seed. Jay plays the Roland Garros champion next

Felix is WR 603 in adult (despite being only 15 years old). And JWR 3 (ex-2).
Despite being the biggest Ryan fan, I thought he'd most definitely lose this one, oh me of little faith.... That second set TB must have been a thriller.
And to think, it was only 22 months ago, that the other thread was started, with nobody having heard a dicky bird about him....
(Second the sentiment that it would be nice to see some solid support from the LTA for him and Jay. Don't know about Jay, and if things have changed, but it is my understanding that there is still basically nothing of any real substance coming Ryan's way. Thank the Lord for non-LTA coaches.....)
They're starting to help both Ryan and Jay a little. James Trotman being the key link man. Obviously it would be great to see more, because Ryan is such a huge raw talent, Jay more the finished article in someways, but with lots of upside as well. Great results in particular Ryan's result doesn't surprise because if he gets it together for any length of time on any given day, he is lethal, just needs to find it for longer periods during matches, maybe today he got that.

I've seen him play several times and, as said many times, he's always impressed with a range of natural strengths and potential. For someone who loves/is learning to love clay, his grass court play is amazingly effective. (Probably go and lose horribly tomorrow )
I have followed his coaching path though and am not sure that Trotman is any key part of it, although that may have changed in the past few weeks.
And I guess that any small contribution is, presumably, a step in the right direction.
I do not think overall, however, that the LTA have covered themselves with glory in the way they've treated him: in fact, and without details, quite the opposite.
But all the best to him and the others who are trying to make a go of it, in difficult circumstances.
His clay results have been great, eventhough he hasn't learnt the art of sliding on the surface to the max yet. He's starting to get to grips with this green stuff now, but outside hard is still his favourite. The help from James has been very limited to date, just the odd phone call, but there is clearly a will from the LTA, to start to try and help a little more. Ryan would greatly benefit from some top level coaching, at this stage in his development. I've got all my fingers crossed that the family find the right balance between doing it their own way, getting the right type of help, and balancing the finances.
