Week 25 - Wimbledon Women's Qualifying

Wouldn't that cause too much wear on the courts?

no-one yet commented on the women's draw - looks pretty dreadful for our girls - Jo getting into the top 16 backfired horrendously with dangerous players at every turn in Puig, Bouchard, Cibulkova even before she meets a higher ranked player in Radwanska - only Tara maybe satisfied with Van Uytvanck having dropped down the rankings of late but even she beat Heather in the Fed Cup

Not getting into the top 16 didn't particularly backfire for Jo, let alone horrendously.

Puig and potentially Bouchard, whatever one thinks of them, are simply the luck of the draw that any seed could have drawn and I see (19) Cibulkova as no worse looking than what would have been the alternative, one of (9) to (16), if she had still been (17) - i.e. Keys, Kvitova, Bacsinszky, Suarez Navarro, Kuznetsova, Stosur, Pliskova or Svitolina.

Yes, I thought the women's one is OK.

Decent draw for Tara. Reasonable-ish for Katie Swan (I mean, this is a Grand Slam after all, there's very few 'easy' draws)

Puig is decent but I think her run at Eastbourne is a bit of a flash in the pan.

Not easy for Naomi ...

Laura R gets the short straw but it's all upside - no one can expect her to win, so a surprise would be great and a loss would no huge disappointment.

Murgruza has Giorgi. Kuznetsova has Woz. Bencic gets Pironkova. There's lots of tricky draws there....

Ben Rothenberg @BenRothenberg 13m13 minutes ago Wandsworth, London

"Paszek and Hlavackova both getting medical attention, simultaneously, at 9-8 changeover. Carnage. #Wimbledon"

"Hlavackova rises from her chair resumes play, loses point, collapses to ground with cramps again. Retires down 10-9 in third. Paszek wins."

I'm with Indy.

Third-set tie-breaks !!!!

There was a LONG break between the sets - a convenient toilet break ????

Certainly, the Russian seems to have re-grouped and is scoring a lot more easily now.

Harriet a break down.
