No. 775 Marcus Willis is lowest-ranked man (not using PR) to play singles @Wimbledon since No. 1049 Mahesh Bhupathi was a WC entry in 2000.

So so pleased for Marcus.

Anyone spotted any Cartman references anywhere yet?!

When do they confirm his place in the draw?

So wishing I had put the first week of Wimbledon in my diary and booked the first two days off before booking flights to visit family in Portugal. Maybe the beeb will be kind to me and put him on iPlayer for when I get back!

So so pleased for Marcus! So enjoyable to watch! Let's hope he's back on the challenger circuit soon! Especially in America! Marcus playing with Mike C as commentary is just the right combination!!!

Amazing, so pleased for him. I had never seen him play in the flesh (and there is still a little bit of it) before this week and he is as entertaining to watch as Evo was last year. I still can't work out how he gets anything back with his backhand, talk about an extreme grip!

A great reward for the hard work he put in last year getting the weight off and perhaps he now has the cash to get back on tour sooner rather than later as that's a fair few bob in the bank, talking of which BiS will be ecstatic. Just wish I'd seen Marcus's tramline dash in celebration. His second round celebration was right up there.

A nice draw against an up and coming youngster and who knows. Bring it on.

After a pretty rough day referendum wise and a business meeting that didn't quite go as planned, what better way to cheer myself up than to log on here to find Marcus as qualified. It is a tremendous achievement for him and so important in numerous ways.

1) Money - A guaranteed 30k in the bank (although he has been quoted as saying that is to pay off credit cards LOL)
2) Self Belief - If he didn't believe deep down that he could play at this level, before this week, hopefully now he will believe completely.
3) Publicity - Nothing better than getting your name in the spotlight when trying to look for new sponsorship and build up a warchest for another crack at the life of a pro.
4) Ranking - If Marcus returns full time to the tour as planned in January, these 35 points will ensure he doesn't have to start playing Futures Qualies. He will get MD from the start.

Perhaps the success this week will encourage him to bring forwards his return to full time tennis, although he may have coaching committments that he cannot avoid. Time will tell.

As has been posted on the Wimbledon MD thread, Marcus has drawn Berankis. I am sure that his mate Evo will be providing a few tips on how to win that one. And then Federer on Centre Court ? Do we dare to dream ? Like hell we do. Go Marcus. I could not be happier for you.

Marcus for far too little of his career has shown how good he can be and certainly not for most of the last four or five years save a marked upturn with Gary, so in that sense he hasn't been good enough, hence ... Nout really do with the LTA positively or negatively, and no reason he should have been getting help above quite a number of others of late.

Great though from Marcus, so good to see, well done

And Federer in R2? What a R1 incentive. I could see Centre Court loving Marcus and giving him an army of new fans.

Thank you so much for posting this. Can you find the match with Sandgren? It's still the funniest match I've ever seen!!

I honestly couldn't be happier for Marcus. Absolutely fantastic. Congratulations to the guy.

Deserves his days in the limelight - he's on the back of the Daily Fail tomorrow!
