Eden lost 7-5 6-1

BUT (and shame about the retirement but it was at the end of the first set after all)

Beth wins through to the semifinal !!!

QF: SILVA, Eden (GBR) Q 1250 lost to BOSIO, Victoria (ARG) 1 452 7-5 6-1

QF: GREY, Sarah Beth (GBR) 927 def. VALE COSTA, Joana (POR) 881 7-5 retired

AND two of the Irish girls made it through to the semis too - including the real youngster from Sutton. Well done, them. (And will play each other so have a guaranteed finalist)

Shame for Eden, but she's slowly getting some more wins which is positive at this early stage of a come back.

Yay for Sarah Beth, yes her opponent retired but it's good to see her going deeper in events. Just spotted on her ITF page that she's ambidextrous and plays with a doubled handed forehand! I had no idea about this having never seen her play.

there was a tweet from Soto earlier in the week saying it was 40 degrees, so I expect heat was the issue

I've seen her a couple of times and I don't think she had an unconventional style i.e a double handed forehand

Beth ?

No, definitely a normal forehand.

Powerful legs and core. Correct technique.

Used to play way too centrally and one-dimensional.

Now is more aggressive and fitter - takes the ball a little earlier, goes for the lines a bit more, moves the ball about a bit more. Not trail-blazing but all going the right way.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up guys smile

Clearly something has gone a bit weird on her ITF page: www.itftennis.com/procircuit/players/player/profile.aspx

Unless it's a ruse to confuse the strategy of her opponents who have never played her?? Weird.
