Ridiculous not to give our most inform grass player a WC... regardless of the past, how can they warranry giving people them year after year and them making next to no progress.... Hope Evo comes through although i think it maybe too many matches for him

Given that FIVE main draw singles wild cards have still be announced, I think the Beeb is being a bit presumptuous with this report.

It's being reported everywhere... wonder what they would have done if Evo won at queens yesterday...

Joe & Freddie have doubles main draw WCs!    Others go to Luke & Jonny, Liam & Scott, Jay & Cam, Alex Bolt & Lleyton Hewitt & Jürgen Melzer & Daniel Nestor (why?  Sentimental reasons?).  Two more have still to be announced.

Has to be sentimental reasons for Melzer & Nestor, I don't agree with this, they have had their day, earned enough money, should have gone to someone younger.

I notice that Jay is with Cam and judging by Marcus Willis current form this is no surprise, a really good move for Jay, gives him a chance.
Talking of the clown prince of british tennis, where is he? I guess he's in WC play offs tomorrow?

He did joke about possibly playing Evo in R1 on the wild card playoffs.  Whether that is actually the case or whether he was musing over the possibility, I don't know.

Willis v Evans could be a bit of a stinker first round pre qualies.....

Thanks Bob, joking aside I hope they end up in separate halves of the draw.

"This decision is based on principle in the immediacy of his return from a suspension from competition," the All England Club said in a statement.

"He will be competing in the pre-qualifying at the All England Club this week for the opportunity to secure one of the remaining places into qualifying."

I think we can safely say he's not getting one if that's their statement

Though what their "principle" they mention is I'm not sure confuse

Dont necessarily feel Dan should get a MDWC, however him not getting a QWC is just punishing the other players in the WC playoff. Although I like the fact that we have given a lot of QWC to youngsters.

It sounds quite clear cut if theyre reporting from a statement from the AE club.

Its so disappointing. What about the principle that hes served his ban and done his time in qualifying in other tournaments since he came back from the ban? I could understand it if it had been a ban for PED but it wasnt. I think there are stuffy committee types that dont like Dan because hes not one of us unlike plucky Tim. Dans occasional lack of discipline, which he acknowledges himself, has ultimately only ever rebounded on himself. If he doesnt get into Wimbledon, or if he takes a place that another Brit could have had through the play offs, it will be the regular tennis supporters that will be disappointed. Hes one of a handful of our players that can actually get through the first round given a decent draw. Hes kept his head down since hes been back. Hes made himself available for Davis Cup when requested.  I hope the report is incorrect but I fear not.

Ah, OK.  Was unaware of that statement.  It was only a brief "breaking news" item when I first saw it.  It's been fleshed out quite a bit since then!  cry

Given that Dan needs points, in the best interest of him returning and putting his career back on track Pre Qualifying is a crazy decision.

Wimbledon wouldnt have been rewarding him for taking drugs they would have been rewarding fine form since his return...

Bunch of Tories on the committee not surprised at their double standards to be honest. If I was Dan I wouldnt bother in some ways, play elsewhere and knuckle down work his way back and tell them to shove it.

Middle class toffs running tennis in this country wondering why we havent produced any top players in decades. Go figure guys, but hey as long as you sit there sipping your pimms and eating your rip off strawberries milking fortunes out of Wimbledon they who cares right?

Exactly that, and their class type are the ones likely to know all about what Dan got caught doing as well....
