Week 24 - ITF ($50K) - Ilkley, UK - Grass

There is still a QWC place left, and of course the 2 wild card places. I am confident Sam will be in the qualies draw yet.

Yes. But my fear is that Sam will draw Lisa in R1 of the play-offs and then it's all skuppered (for one of them) ..... cry

Yes, my fear too, that's exactly what I can see happening - so hope at least one of them gets the final QWC left.

Tight games and a very tight match, but Kerkhove saves BPs and holds to lead *4-5 in the third, so now Sam to serve to stay in.

and holds to love 5-5 smile

Sam breaks, but then promptly goes 15-40 down - then takes the next 4 points and wins!

Massive win for Sam. Well done!

An older girl, with a top 200 CH and potential to do even better, actually beating players on grass of the calibre she would face in Roehampton, and she may now miss out because this win means she can't compete in pre-qualies.

Hopefully sense prevails - she really deserves the opportunity, she's proved she's back and ready. Superb win!

Well, I sincerely hope sense does prevail. For now a very welcome 8 points for Sam. Kerkhove achieved her CH only last month too, so this really is a good performance from Sam and it should be recognised

R1: Samantha Murray (GBR) 664 beats Lesley KERKHOVE (NED) 180 (CH 169 23/05/2016) 5-7 6-3 7-5 biggrin

She gets Barty or Rodina, #2 seed, next, so probably limited chance of progressing further unfortunately.

Just beaten WR 180, clearly already getting back to good enough form to actually have a good chance of winning matches in Wimbledon Q, but can't be in two places at once tomorrow.

Oh, I understand that there's a spare Q WC over and above these announced and the guaranteed two play-off ones. Sorted or should be.

YAY, great win for Sam biggrin

Think that should be Bai or Rodina in R2 which isn't quite so tough as Barty or Rodina, methinks smile

Ah yes, think I'm just used to reading Barty's name of late smile. Well that's a little bit easier, Rodina is 'only' WR113!

I think Sam would have a decent chance against Rodina (Mandy beat her a few weeks ago); Barty's on a roll as you suggest and probably a tougher prospect than Rodina.

Barty withdrew, replaced by Bai.

Thanks for that, Paul, suggests I wasn't quite so blind to begin with... smile. But yes, it would be good to see Sam have a crack at Rodina and see how she does.
