Lisa was simply brilliant today, and I didn't miss a point happy to say. Serve was exceptional, ground strokes were exceptional and was just in complete control. Didn't catch any of Katy's FQR match but will be there tomorrow to support.
Lisa was outstanding. Having never seen her play before and aware that she has had several shoulder ops, her serve was very impressive. Plenty of power and kick on the serve and the cross forehand caused all sorts of problems.
Megan is a talent, got all the shots in the book and had chances in the first set, but her serve and ground shots were inconsistent and Ons stepped up a gear when needed. Having seen her three times now, I understand why she has beaten two ranked players.
Only watched a couple of games of Katy v Jazzamay, but Katy was cruising and didn't need to get out of second gear.
Saw some of Katy taking on the young Aussie, who had disposed of a seed earlier. Not much between them, but Katy was gifted a break after a string of errors from the Aussie. Katy then had to dig deep to serve out the set with some big serves.
Heartbreaker for Katy, who after a very very slow start today, looked like she had this by being the more consistent player. 4-0 up in the decider, her Aussie opponent started to cut out the sloppy errors, and started to believe she could come back and win this. Katy was devastated at the end. Katy's playing half decent at the moment, but with a little bit more confidence could really start to jump up the rankings.
Frustratingly had to miss Lisa's match as Liam's match was just starting outside, so can't really comment whether indoors made it tougher for her.
Freya's match well for me shouldn't have started due to the condition of the court. The baseline was like a muddy track, same for both players, but Freya in particular fell over at least 3 times and could have injured herself pretty badly. The players spent the changeovers getting the mud off the base of their shoes with the help of their rackets. Freya served very well throughout, but Duan just had the more consistent ground strokes to take the win.
