Made a quick dash to catch the end of Katy's match. Really impressive, different player from what I saw last year, fist pumping tonnes and being really aggressive, spoke to her mum afterwards and she said in the 1st set Katy's misses were not by much, but by the end, she wasn't missing at all !

I wasn't going to report this before but it's probably safe to say now that when I spoke to Katy's mum at Surbiton, she wasn't too hopeful for Ilkley, realistically enough given the strength of the entry list (they already seemed to know or expect that Katy wasn't going to get a main draw wild card, despite the fact that her not getting one surprised some of us here) - hopefully they're all feeling a lot happier after today's win and the prospect of a match against Jazzamay (impressive as she must have been today) in QR2. Of course, it's still a case of tough matches for very few points, but whatever happens here from now on, a win like today's must give Katy more confidence leading into Wimbledon qualies - always assuming she'll have to play those, though I'm hoping the AELTC will give at least some of the MD WCs to Brits.
