Week 24 - WTA Premier ($846K) - Birmingham, UK - Grass

Really good win for Laura today - first top 100 win in ages and a much needed confidence booster. Good to see her 1st serve win % was much higher today too as that makes a big difference to her chances on grass.

Not generally true. Excellent performance from the Brits that surprised me and delighted me - good things to come. smile

Very pleased for Laura, a few wins on what must be her favourite surface should spur her on.

steady rain and grey skies in Brum this morning, can't see play starting at 11am. ( I live a couple of miles from the Edgbaston club).

Jo promoted to 9th seed and plays Doi. Tara to play a Q/LL.

Probably not ideal for Jo

Yes, that certainly seems to have worked out better for Tara than for Jo. However, while Doi did beat her this year, it was on clay, and Jo has won all three of their meetings on hard and grass. They tend to have close matches though - 3 of the 4 went to 3 sets and the grass court win required a 3rd set tiebreak.

Looks like we will have some play in Birmingham, covers coming off so looks like a half 2 start.

Gabi moved indoors where we cant watch though.

Laura first on centre.

New centre court is a bit strange, not many seats behind the court and what there is is high up!

Thanks, I figured as much, but I thought that she might have been given a WC or SE due to that.

Bencic/Petkovic, Svitolina/Konta and Watson/Broady have wild cards into the doubles.
