Liam into a breaker in the third. He had 2 match points at 4-5 and 15-40 on Smyczek's serve but could not take them. He has looked the better player for the second half of the match so fingers crossed.
TB for the match. Liam had two match points in the tenth game but alas.
Liam serves first 1-0 nice serve & volley.
1-1
2-1 Liam. Tim hit long.
2-2 double
3-2 big first serve that Tim could not handle.
4-2 Tim hits into the net after the longest rally I have seen. Great point.
5-2 Tim hits long after another rally.
6-2, Tim hit just long.
7-2 Tim hit into the net.
Great tennis!
Great stuff from Liam, who now finally gets the chance to avenge that 2011 Wimbledon boys' final defeat - amazingly, he hasn't played Luke Saville again since then.

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
As with clay, but to a greater degree, rankings go out the window on grass. (not as bad as it used to be with the old 90s grass).
I refuse to get excited by British players winning a few grass challenger or even ATP matches during this period. One word, EATON. That chap he defeated at Wimbledon was about 50-60 in rankings??
Great for this O mara boy, but please prove yourself on the long hard court slog.
Sad but very true. Luke Milligan, Ian Flanagan and Andrew Foster are other names that spring to mind.
Eaton beat Tursunov, I think. But as I understand from those who have long followed Jonny O'Mara on this board, there's generally been a sense that he had a lot of potential in general, not just on grass in the glorious GB summer (have you seen the long-range forecasts?!) ... but that he has been held back by a horrid sequence of injuries. There's been quite a bit of excitement about him for a while.

Plus his Dad posts on here occasionally, so it's only to be expected that collectively we might have more of an keen eye on his progress. Great win for the pair of them today.
I guess it was all on livestream but, live, the boys were great today.
Jonny plays and recounts his life story at the same time, chuntering away to himself, giving himself little pep talks. It's endearing.
It's true that the Chinese player looked a little lost on grass but Jonny played great, and had a whole heap of British support suddenly appearing on the sidelines as it got close in the second. No one's claiming that it represents a seismic shift in his career. BUT it's a lovely moment for him, and he took it well.
And there was a real buzz around Liam's match too. It was very close - they both played some excellent and some horrid tennis throughout a long match. All very tense. And, to be honest, I thought Tim would sneak it. And was wrong !!! (NB Never realised quite how small and slight Smyczek is - very light, hardly anything to him).
Overall, a great day for the lads ---- and some good doubles from Bambo and Joe too (fun to see Joe serve ALL his serves right into the body of O'Hare, jamming him up, it's obviously something David hates - and Joe knows it ! David was even laughing at one point).
Loved seeing Tiafoe weave his particular spell of tennis magic too - an interesting game and good to watch.
