Copil takes the breaker against Dan 7-3.

Why is Copil in qualies anyway. Brydan was last DE into the main draw with a ranking of 228 while Copil is ranked 182 and in qualies.

Assume it's a MD entry issue with Copil. Doesn't seem to be any ranking issue ( at entry date ) given how long Copil has been inide the top 200 and Brydan outside it.

Really pleased for Jonny. I am a Josh fan too so this was difficult, but perhaps we have seen the best of Milts, whilst the best of Jonny is still to come.

Hoping Dan S can surprise the top seed and join Jonny et al in the MD.

I also like both Jonny and Josh but with the hideous level of luck Jonny has had with injuries I was rooting for him today. I am honestly hopefully that if he can stay fit and have a run of tournaments that he can really start to push his ranking up. He has a good grass court game so hopefully the next few weeks will be good for him. I would love to see him in Wimbledon qualifying as I think he is the kind of lad that would be inspired by the challenge and even if he lost first round I think he would give a good account of himself and would benefit hugely from the experience.

Of course I was also rooting for him as I had money on him at 6/4, in fact I have had money on him for all three of his matches so thank you very much Jonny. You have single handed salvaged an otherwise bad weekend of gambling on my part.

Yes Well done Jonny well deserved and nice one RJA.

I backed Muguruza at 16/1 last month for the French so I can appreciate a wee win here and there.

Real shame for Dan - he was playing some cracking tennis - against a class player - excellent match.

Hope he can take some encouragement from that.

Jonny and Josh, to be honest, was not the same level at all - far more push-ball, although with some nice angles etc. and Jonny deserved it.

NB Liam and Brydan seem to be good buddies - hitting together for a good chunk of the day

Thanks CD, always good to get reports and perspective, and extra snippets

I see that Marcus Willis and Dan Cox have been in action - in French league tennis.

It is a great pity if we are going to see much less of them on the circuit in the future. All the best to them in whatever they may do though - more coaching, indeed back on the circuit in time or whatever.

I overheard Josh Milton talking next to me before his 2qr match saying that Cox, Rice & Willis were done. So I assumed that meant on the circuit. Although I think one of them was planning on turning up for Wimbledon WC tournament.

Dont blame them if they can get a good steady income from playing club tennis and some coaching at some point you have to make that decision.

I also heard that Dan Smethurst is pretty much done too - just Wimbledon (WC?) quallies for the rest of this year but now coaching.

It seems likely.

And it's true that the decision has to be taken at some point, and that it's unlikely that any of them would make top 100 now. So maybe why not......

BUT Marcus, Cox and Smethers are only 25.

They're two/three years off their peak.

All three of them could most certainly make top 200 (IMHO). Smethers top 150.

It's a shame that it's not thought highly of, or supported in some shape or form, in this country, because we lose that possibility.

And although making top 200, say, wouldn't make any difference really for the individual player, it would be great for GB tennis to have a clutch of players of that level.

Not just for us () but for the message and vibe it gives to all the younger players, the clubs, etc. etc.

To be fair to Smethy his situation is a little bit different, injury related, a crying shame as he had so much more to give.

Yes, exactly. If he quits/has to quit, he's the one you feel 'got away' - there's a really top player in there.

Disappointed if Dan Cox is quiting the circuit Evans was as low as 820 and fought to get his ranking back up I agree Cox and Smethurst too could be top 200 may be they are fed up of the slog. David Rice ranking has fallen off this year I always thought he was a better doubles
