Week 23 - ATP 250 - Mercedes Cup, Stuttgart, Germany (grass)

Well, well, well...

QR1:  Jan Hernych (CZE) WR 288 (CH = 59 in April 2009 - he'll be 37 next month) vs (q7) James Ward WR 173 (CH = 89 last July)

Get your coat!  Not even remotely funny.  In fact, pathetic! disbelief

Stepanek is the other seed in his section which is not the best draw.

QR1:  (q7) James Ward WR 173 defeated Jan Hernych (CZE) WR 288 by 7-6(6) 7-5  smile

Ugly Mug (q4) or Mektic in QR2, probably the former, as he's already a set up on his opponent.

And Ugly Mug it is:

QR2:  (q4) Radek Stepanek (CZE) WR 128 (CH = 8 in July 2006) vs (q7) James Ward WR 173

Where are you getting the scores from the ATP site seems to be down

A combination of bet365 & the ATP LS, the latter of which is working fine for me.

Hah, he beat Andy 6-3 in their RG first set Right enough it would be a good idea not to let him win the second set on this occasion.

Not particularly surprised to see James struggling today. Tough match-up on current levels. You never know though, maybe an LL and a soft draw?!

Rain delay with Radek up 2-0 in the second set. Gives time for James to regroup.

I wasn't expecting James to win this but if he was playing anywhere near decent I would have hoped he could have at least kept it to one break per set. To lose 2 and 1 on grass really is a poor result for a guy who can serve as well as James can.
