Week 23 - WTA International ($250K) - Nottingham, UK - Grass

I think if Tara wins a couple of Main Draw matches here she will be given the elusive Wimby Wild Card.

Odds on British wins tomorrow (on Bet365):

Heather 2/7
Naomi 8/11
Tara 5/4
Laura 13/8
All four about 12/1

Some value there (especially Naomi & Tara) - or am I just being overly optimistic?

who is he exactly?

Colin Beecher, former pro, long time coach of Kyle Edmund in his younger days, replaced by err Greg Rusedski as Kyle was beginning to break through in seniors.

Certainly has worked for the LTA for a while, not sure now, has apparently been overseeing Georgina Axon this week and someone here did point out earlier that that shouldn't be a full time job. So evidently spreading his wings

Those are probably very short odds on Tara compared with what would have been on offer just a couple of weeks or so ago. And while Tara is in great form, more than ever today evidently, and of course beat Vekic just last week it's maybe not unreasonable that Vekic is still slight favourite. To have Tara favourite would have been some statement. And who knows ( not me ) maybe right

Considering Genie is already out of the event in the Netherlands, thrashed 0 & 2 by a Q in under 50 minutes, I thought of suggesting her for Laura's coach this week.

If MDLB wasn't a grass court specialist, I would strongly fancy Laura, she was simply awesome in practice today, but hey that's not the match court, and confidence is still very low. Tara at 5/4 is a no brainer, on CURRENT form.

Beechy is one of the lead coaches at JTC, hence why he works with Georgie Axon and the other good juniors there - Jodie, Alistair and Finn.

He is also one of the DC coaches.

I think DF was being ironic - hence his 'wink' icon.

Yes Tara stormed off to show up my scepticism that recent events should actually clearly have had her more favoured at the bookies than was quoted.

Good on her !

By the way, live-tennis.eu, Tara doesn't get the R1 point in addition to her 18 qualifying points, she's still for now on 167 points in running, up 10 net points.

She would get the full 30 points in addition for winning R1 though taking her up to 197 - getting her much closer to Conny P, who is on 207 points ( apparently ).

Tara now just missing forehand winners, straying wide, lets Vekic back in, 4-2*

Tara 6-2

Vekic started to play a bit better towards the end, so this might not be over yet.
