Week 23 - WTA International ($250K) - Nottingham, UK - Grass

Not seeing much from Freya really. Lots of rally balls going long.

Some decent serving at times.

Horrible volley error at 40-30 ends up with Freya getting broken after several more errors. That was a terrible mistake on such an easy shot. 0-1*

Twice Freya gets bp but can't convert *0-2

Freya saves more bps but loses serve again after a couple of backhand errors 0-3*

Freya with a couple of aces as she holds to love for 1-4*

Freya gets back to 40-40 but loses the next two points *1-5

3 more unreturned serves as Freya holds to 30 2-5*

Got to be down to nerves i hope. Playing first WTA MD at home event. Thinking too much about things.

Useful experience to get at this stage of her career. Hopefully she will be conscious of the need to add more penetration to her game. Every so often Freya came up with a good shot so that's encouraging, even if her default setting seems to be too safe for WTA level.

First serve confused me, as normally 71% first serve percentage with 6 aces would be good but she ended up winning 55% on both first and second serves.

Return, especially 2nd serve return, was poor; think she landed one aggressive return that won her the point.

Definitely think she needs to be more aggressive. When she did she tended to win the point.

Zheng didn't show me anything today to show she's a good top 100 player.

At the same time do we still think Freya is likely to get a Wimbledon WC? I believe she's playing Ilkley next week?

Before today's match yes. After watching that performance, not so sure. In her favour is her age and the fact that we have quite a lot of players who have a decent case for a qualifying wild card due to long term injuries etc. If Freya or Laura Robson only get qualifying wildcards then someone who probably does deserve a qualifying wildcard, and could do with the cash, ends up missing out.

Laura looked very good in practice, and played an extra 1/2 hour to really hone her grass court skills. But the big news, and I'll give you all 10 guesses to see if you can come up with who might be coaching her this week, and I bet no one can come up with the answer.

I was hoping some people would put out a few names, before I revealed the answer, I mean it would be a bit boring just to name the person straightaway.
