Week 23 - WTA International ($250K) - Nottingham, UK - Grass

Q1: (WC) Lisa WHYBOURN (GBR) 556 v. Yuxuan ZHANG (CHN) 216 (CH 166, Apr 2016)
Q1: (WC) Katie BOULTER (GBR) 741 v. Renata VORACOVA (CZE) 380 (CH 74, Nov 2010)
Q1: (WC) Eden SILVA (GBR) UNR v. Gabriea DABROWSKI (CAN) 468 (CH 164, Mar 2014)
Q1: Tara MOORE (GBR) 314 v. Zhaoxuan YANG (CHN) 193 (CH 151, Sep 2015)

Tara could conceivably play Conny in FQR
Katie & Lisa in same section

Taking to the court will give Eden her third counter and so she'll be ranked again.

Jasmine Asghar and Savannah Sills lose their ranking on Monday thus if Eden adds we will then have at least 32 ranked women a week on Monday. With a number of others currently on two counters maybe Surbiton will add to the count.

Has Katy Dunne withdrawn? She was No. 5 on the Alts list to Tara No. 4 and she has a higher ranking than Dabrowski.

I would imagine she's playing Surbiton - still on the latest updated list.

Asghar??  She's been playing for her club in Aegon team tennis so not injured.  Can only assume she has moved on to other things.

Reach QR3/FQR : 14

Play is underway, with no Brits yet on court.

The Beeb has an interview with Freya...

Withdrawal carnage in the main draw means that Heather will be seeded as well as Jo...

Shame to see two byes given in the Qdraw.

Pretty good draws for all of ours in Q1. Good luck all.

Two byes in the Q draw?

So that's a ranking point that effectively could have been 'bought' for the entry fee?

Makes a bit of a mockery of the idea that there's nowhere for the girls to play (although I guess, unless you're based nearby,, you're not going to go there and hang out, on the off-chance, if you're lowly ranked, but all the same.....)

Yeah, and enough cash for turning up to get you a flight to Sharm. Perplexing.

What i don't understand is why the organisers didn't call up Notts Tennis club (or whatever it's called) and say 'is anyone sitting around and wants a WTA match?'

Anna Loughlan is there, isn't she? And there must be others.

It gets the tournament two extra entry fees, makes the tournament look more subscribed, gives two other players a chance, a point, (cash? I didn't realise) and an experience....

As you say, perplexing.....

Just checked: Sarah Beth got US$530 for losing in Q1 last year; whereas an ITF 10k SF only pays US$490.

Should be an interesting doubles draw; probables Hev+Naomi, Jossanna, Freya + Lisa, Taco; possibles from Jo+, Laura+, Sam+...
