Yes sadly, Mandy got her serve beaten up, won only one service game.
R1: (q) Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) 289 lost to (7) Silvia SOLER-ESPINOSA (ESP) 126 (CH 54 21/05/2012) 1-6 2-6
I think this shows the gap in class between a good ITF player and a former top 100 player
Not sure you can draw that conclusion having not seen the match. It could just be that Soler-Espinosa was particularly on fire, or Amanda had a bad day...remember that Amanda has beaten (former top 100 player) Evgeniya Rodina and (about-to-be-top-100 player) Viktorija Golubic in the last month.
Would be happy to see Mandy in Notts qualies. I think if she is in the frame for a Wimbledon MD wildcard its important for her to show an appetite to play on the grass, as she did last year (and didn't do too badly at all).
I think it's often a function of where the player has friends (or friends of their parents) i.e. a nice place to stay (and maybe a nice person to drive them !).
As Mandy played Surbiton last year (and successfully too), I'm guessing there's a decent chance she's got things arranged down that neck of the woods and will go there again.
Amanda's put in ITF entries for week 25 (Wimbledon Qs) at several 25k tournaments on European clay - which may suggest that she intends to skip the grass completely?
To be honest, unless she were offered a WTA/Wimbledon MDWC by the LTA, I think that this is her best course. The additional points she won here should keep her inside the top 300 after her Surbiton 2015 points are deducted - then she only has a score of points to defend until mid-September. That should give her 3 months of making the cur-offs for 25ks easily, with every chance of rising rapidly through the rankings, if the points on offer each time she plays have quadrupled compared to 10ks.
