Week 22 - Challenger (€42,500) - Aegon Trophy, Manchester, UK (Grass)

Another great set of tennis goes a peskies' way but what a shot from Brown to win it with a diving volley 9-7 in the buster.

Another close TB goes the wrong way as Dreddy takes the set against Wardy (J) 7-6(7). To be fair, Wardy didn't do a lot wrong in that breaker and an early line call against him didn't help.

And so endeth all Brit interest in the singles:

QF:   Dustin Brown (GER) WR 116 defeated James Ward WR 173 by 7-6(7) 6-2  cry

I await with interest the assessment of those who actually watched the match.

Oh dear that set was over rather quickly.
I had about a quarter of an eye on the first set, but didn't see much of the second.

Ward reaches a QF challenger on grass, and he is back, pull the other one, I heard Lord Lucan was watching too.

I was there again.
Alex had a slow start again, but played very well in the second and served for the tie break. The Pole was outstanding. Never gave Alex any soft points and was clinical. Not surprised he beat Evo and could easily win the whole thing.

First set of James's match was dominated by serve and James was the better player, but a bad call in the tie break swung the match and James' serve and ground shots were a little off. Dustin Brown is good on the grass and if he's up for it, could be a nightmare draw for anyone at Wimbledon never mind here.

Thanks paulisi for report again. Apparently Gojowczyk is German from birth, but certainly no German "mug".

James has had a rough year after his coach died cut him some slack
