James was terrific - back to his best.
Alex after an inconsistent start, played like he did yesterday and ground his opponent down. Alex has got very good hands at the net for someone who rarely plays doubles.
If James wins tomorrow, he will miss Stuttgart and assume take a WC for Surbiton.Alex will get a SE if he wins(tough ask) otherwise he should get a wildcard. Liam, Brydan, Ed and Lloyd are the likely contenders for the remainder wildcards.
Id like to say I thought James was back to his best, but I arrived as he was winning match point, such was the catalogue of ****ups which meant I got there an hour late. But Alex was tremendous, powerful and aggressive and very fit now, came through I think about 3 very difficult situations with aplomb, to further enhance his mental toughness qualities. Sadly didn't catch Eds match as due to the scheduling both played out simultaneously, but it's look he put up a great fight in the 2nd.
In my opinion i would say that pretty much gets him the WC, which i could completely understand, seems very much a man on the up at present. In the bit that i watched yesterday i dont recall berrer hitting a winner, Alex was always the aggressor, yes there were some errors early doors but he soon ironed them out. Congrats that man and good luck for the next round.
Terrific 2nd set, but in the end, Gojo wins the TB 13-11 to take the match.
That really could have gone either way, but Alex looks so comfortable at this level. It has been another very good week for him, despite getting edged out today.
Mr Gojowczyk is no friend of GB tennis right now! But very impressive that Alex Ward did so well - and that he clearly (as per not only this week but the Asia swing) belongs at this level. Well done.
