Apart from Laura, what a day, in particular Lisa for that amazing comeback victory.

When I saw the Chinese grass records, I had a sneaky suspicion for 2 of Katy/Lisa/Tara to win, but wasn't brave enough to declare it.
I didn't for one moment believe all three would upset the odds though!

Has anybody any thoughts about Laura receiving a MDWC for Wimbledon I think she will but based on her form I think she should go through qualifying at Roehampton

Three of the matches wee over 2 hours long. Tara's was under the hour.

And another win, for EWS and Sam Murray in the doubles...

Win for EWS+Sam should see Sam rise 130 places to around WR700

Offscreen, the Pitaks have won themselves a ranking, and are in a match

Yorkshire's own Naiktha Bains is a notable unlucky winner, losing to the lucky loser she beat in FQR!

3 excellent wins, with Lisa's being the highlight for the dramatic comeback but all were 2nd favourites going in to the matches. Nice start to the grass season.

Laura got into a good position but obviously faded at the end. She hasn't played a 3 set match in a long time so I would suspect it had more to do with mental rather than physical tiredness.

Shame for Laura. She needs a couple of wins and as many matches as possible. And I fear her scheduling this summer won't allow that. I think we'll see Laura really motor on the US hardcourt swing ahead of the US Open. Hopefully she'll play Landisville and Fort Worth.

In terms of Wimbledon I really don't think it'll make too much of a difference in the medium/long term whether it's a WC for Q or main draw.

Laura needs more of the hard yards still as this result clearly shows. She's not fit enough yet, and losing regularly in the first round isn't going to help, though I still believe her fitness should be better than it is at the moment. Wimbledon main draw is one thing, but where I do think she should be continuing to play is in these 50k events! Next week Tara, Lisa W, Katy D, all winners today, plus Freya, Katie S, Gaby Taylor are all down to play Surbiton, but Laura has a WC into the Nottingham WTA event. Not sure that is either warranted or a good thing at this point.

Activeboard ate my reply

TL;DR it will happen regardless. Let's just celebrate our successes today

Well done Katy :D :D :D

Pity Laura couldn't keep her early impetus going to make it 4 out of 4.

On today's evidence Lisa would be more deserving of the Wimby WCM than Laura; in fact I'd love Lisa to get one as just before her big injury timeout she missed getting one by just one week...she hit the 250 mark one week too late; tennis doesn't deal in poetic justice much though so we'll have to see...

Laura..... No more WC. Put her in qualifying for everything. Been on tour for nearly a year on and off and done nothing. Enough is enough. Give WC to players that deserve it like the three today along with Freya,Gabi, Mandy etc.
How long do we have to listen to Laura's getting better, next match will be better, soon be there and yet she has not won anything apart from all of your excuses.
As for Lisa Tara and Katy D ab fab.
