That was a tough loss for Freya, but nevertheless an extremely good performance over 3 hours against the #1 seed and home favourite. She should still be proud of it, and a good week overall. Freya is making very solid gains so far this year, so hope she can continue now into the grass court season. Next target is to be into the 200s ranking wise, but its into the 100s I'd like to see her get by the end of the year. If she can do well on grass and challenge regularly in 25ks up, she should get there. She has a good game, and its improving.
Hope she's well - she may have bigger fish to fry. One interpretation of the runes would have Freya suffering at the start of the third set, then picking up as the painkillers kicked in.
18 points from here is a career second-best. I think she's now on 126 ranking points, up to a CH of 308ish, just behind Laura. Though she's entered for Surbiton, I expect she'll get a local WC to Notts WTA, either in MD or Qs.
I feel some sympathy for her opponent, who is waiting for her ranking to be updated. She has 50 points to add from last week, and a probable 50 from this - which takes her from WR252 to approximately WR188 - on approximately the 5th of June - which may well be too late for Wimbledon qualifiers entry list deadline. If so, Wimbledon (and tennis) is the poorer for excluding a woman on a 9-and-counting winning streak, ranked about 30 or 40 places inside the cut-off.
Yes interesting that on her opponent, Wim. A quick check on her suggests she hasn't played out of SE Asia (including Australia) over the past year or so, apart from the Fed Cup (discounted) and a first round loss to Sorana Cirstea in the US Open qualifiers last August. So yes, a Wimbledon Q entry, is something she would deserve too after recent performances. She is going to bust her singles career high by some way when all these points are added.
