Here we go again with my pet hate (and I know I am not alone.)

Ewen is playing a guy in qualies who, based on the acceptance list, will be seeded 3 in the MD (unless Ewen beats him of course). Please ITF. Put a stop to this.

Edit

At the other end of the scale, in Matt Chadwick's section of the draw none of the players have (or have ever had) a ranking.  Hoping Matt can take advantage of that.

The experience won't have done Ewen any halm either, I understand Bobs frustration but can't really see an equitable way of sorting it out.

An injured but relatively highly ranked player may need to play a couple of rounds of qualifying to ease into more competitive play later and as in this case a young player with genuine long term aspirations of making it on tour should see it as a win, win. Nothing to loose everything to gain in terms of development, obviously frustrating re cost implications of travel yielding little or no tennis if you loose.

I don't agree.

An injured player who wants to play a few rounds of qualis is fine - as long as he has a quali ranking.

If he doesn't have a quali ranking, he should not be there.

Allowing late entries for tactical reasons is not right. An entry deadline is an entry deadline.

And if he wants some extra court time, he can play doubles, play a money tournament (same problem re ranking but less expense to the opponent) or a heap of other ways.

Giving a late entry a MD wildcard is fine - the whole point of MD wildcards is to allow the tournament director some flexibility.

But just allowing a WR 400 player into the qualis because he suddenly feels like it, but didn't feel like it a few weeks ago when the entries were meant to be done, makes a mockery of the entry system.

Mixed fortunes for the two Brits.
