Phew. That was rather too tense. But well done for pulling through. But who would have thought that our one non-straightforward man into the 2nd round would be the man himself?
L64: (15) John Isner (USA) WR 17 (CH = 9 in April 2012) vs Kyle Edmund WR 82
L64: (WC) Mathias Bourgue (FRA) WR 164 (= CH) vs (2) Andy Murray WR2
There is no head-to-head for either encounter.
And in the top half of the draw:
L64: Aljaz Bedene WR 66 vs Pablo Carreņo (ESP) WR 43 (= CH)
The pair have met twice before, both times on clay at Challenger level, & honours are even: Aljaz beat Carreņo by 7-6(1) 5-7 6-3 in the last 16 at Caltanissetta in 2011, while the latter gained his revenge by 4-6 6-4 6-3 in the first round at Marrakech the following year.
I live in the States and so have many friends who support Isner, I am afraid I have begun taking wagers and I am now relying on Kyle to keep a roof over my head! I do however think that Kyle has an excellent chance for a career best win here, he is not in great form and Kyle can match his power whilst having the advantage of being a much more natural mover on clay.
Wow... Those three draws are all EXCELLENT for second round draws. All three have a chance I would say with Andy obviously huge favourite and the other two starting as slight underdogs, but not hugely.
