Too many errors hands Gasquet the set

So Andy leads 5-2* in the 2nd set. Been here before in the 1st. Hoping for a different outcome this time.

It's deja vu all over again. Gasquet breaks.

5-4*

Well. Murray's game and tactics may be all over the place, but you can never question his mental strength in the toughest of situations. He comes from a mini break down, to win the 2nd set TB and level the match at 1 set all.

No complaints about the dropshots, just because I enjoy them, but the lobs from Murray have been awful, and his normal standard is uncanny brilliance.

5-0 up in this set and he;'s hardly hit a drop shot. Coincidence?

QF:  (2) Andy Murray WR 2 defeated (9) Richard Gasquet (FRA) WR 12 by 5-7 7-6(3) 6-0 6-2

*****

SF:  (3) Stan Wawrinka (SUI) WR 4 (CH = 3 in January 2014) vs (2) Andy Murray WR 2

The head-to-head is marginally in Andy's favour:  8-7, with Stan having won the last three, including a match in the last 16 of the Monte-Carlo Masters in 2013 (1 & 2!).  You have to go right back to the first round of the 2012 Olympics to find an Andy win (3 & 3, but of course on grass at Wimbledon).

The French Open organisers have released a statement noting that their insurers, not they, would have been responsible for refunds, and that they did not attempt play in order to avoid refunding ticketholders.

I hadn't realised, incidentally, just how grave the rain/flooding situation was for the Paris area in general. All a bit grim - and more rain on the way! Wonder what that will do to tomorrow's QFs.

Fancy Stan will be strong in the semis, but if he can beat Stan, realistic chance of beating Novak, given the scheduling and the pressure he is under.

If Wawrinka plays his best, he will win simples.

I'd rather see a Wawrinka- Nole final with action than a nole-clayray final that is 6-3 6-4 7-5 (to nole)

But......part of me things this could be Clayray's year.

When he won the US open, he won because of a hurricane, and when he won Wimbledon, he won because Nole had played a 20-18 final set or something daft in the semi.

So I think this year, it will be case of the two, natural disaster (Rain) and fatigue, Thiem to take Nole to 5th set day after tomas bird**** takes him to 5.

If Stan finished his career with more GS then Murray it will be very sad.  Has the fat swiss even ever been to a Masters final??

He has been to 3 finals I think and won his only Masters title at Monte Carlo in 2014.  He certainly likes the clay but is a lot less consistent than the Big 4 and has been known to throw in some pitiful displays in big matches.  Here is hoping Friday is not one of his good days.

We all know that Stan is of course not the real fat Swiss, that honour goes to Mrs Federer. I think she hates Stan, remember an altercation???

Andy has now matched last year in winning 17 matches on clay.

He is 17-2 for 2016, was 17-1 in 2015 ( ignoring his w/o concession in the Rome Masters ) and previous to that reached the French Open SF in 2014 ( so 5-1 there ).

That's 39-4 in just over 2 years. Become not bad on clay

For sheer clay consistency I suspect that knocks Stan into touch, but we know Stan can rise to the occasion as last year here showed, but also not rise too much at all at times.

I like the potential Wawrinka / Djokovic way round, not having Stan in the final and having Djokovic with all the career Grand Slam pressure again quite apart from backed up matches. Then again maybe say young Mr Thiem's time to really make his presence felt has come.

I think you are getting different events at Wimbledon mixed up.

In the 2013 SFs Djokovic did play a 5 setter with Del Potro. However while most sets went long, on or close to TBs, the final set was just 6-3. Andy followed with a 4 set SF against Janowicz which memorably finished very late so possibly not that much in it re recovery required and with the Saturday off. So no Andy did not win Wimbledon 2013 because of any huge SF final set

Now in the Olympics SFs in 2012 Federer beat Del Potro 19-17 in a final set of three before losing the gold medal final match to Andy I am pretty sure the very next day ( Del Potro still beat Djokovic for bronze )

Incidentally, while Andy's 2012 US Open final against Djokovic was undoubtably windy that was all it really was.The really 'fun' conditions were in his SF against Berdych.
