Big Ivo eventually overcame the young Aussie, Jordan (or Jordanie, as the R-G insists on calling him, presumably because that's the name of the country in French! disbelief  Used to do that when Ross Hutchins was playing doubles with Jordan Kerr, too!) Thompson, by 6-7(2) 6-3 7-6(3) 6-7(4) 12-10!  He's never beaten Andy in six encounters, though they've never met on clay before.  Andy's still going to have to pull his socks up!

I was looking back through the archives and I found that last year Evo had played Bourgue in challenger qualifying, and won by 4 and 0. Then in the MD, he was drawn against Stepanek and won by 4 and 1. Clearly based on these results Evo should be the #2 seed here instead of Andy...

I listened to Andy's match on the radio as I was driving back from Wales from the point in the second set when he started losing.....

Russel Fuller's and Barry Flatman's viewpoint was that Andy was awful in the second set, Bourgue brilliant in the third, then Andy finally upped his game and Bourgue ran out of steam in the 4th and 5th sets

 

Lucky for Andy that Karlovic's match went on for more than 4 hours.

Yes, Bourgue was 2-6 against Brits before today, though only two of them (including that 9-7 in the 3rd win for Brydan you mentioned) beat him on clay.

Looking on the bright side, the last time a Brit beat Bourgue in R2 at a clay court event, he went on to win the title! smile That was Kyle after beating the Frenchman rather more handily, 3 & 3, in R2 at Birmingham, Alabama Futures back in 2012.
