ITF Women's Pro Circuit 2015 - Distribution & Frequency of Global Events

What? My boring topic title didn't scare you away?

I thought it would be interesting to see the global patterns of events that took place on the Pro Circuit for an entire year, by surface, level region, country, month, week etc.
So, I did, and it turns out, for once, I was right! It was interesting! But, then again, I'm a sad nerd.

If you think that might be interesting, and that just a tiny little bit, you might be a sad nerd too, you can see my results here, and play around for yourself.

I'm generally more interested in the Women's side of things, but I could easily enough do exactly the same thing for the Mens's side if there was sufficient interest.

What might be even more interesting would be to show where the Brit girls picked up their points - I don't have the slightest idea how that could be done as I don't know where you get your raw data from.

Lots of raw data in Steven's stats pages - www.britishtennis.net/stats/ptdfw.htm

Fascinating - the first things that struck me (though no doubt they won't be the last if I carrying on looking at it much longer ) were how few ITF Pro events were held in the UK relative to other western and southern European countries of comparable size and that there is more of a clay/hard court season split than I thought there was, though there are events on both of those surfaces most weeks.

I'd recommend de-selecting 10ks from the "level" menu - this removes the Mediterranean resort 10ks, and gives a more revealing picture of which countries are investing in providing opportunities for their players...

USA 31
France 19
China 13
Australia 13
Gerrmany 12
Italy 11
Thailand 11
Japan 11
Mexico 10
GB 9

...which is sort of reflected in success in the rankings tables. Players in the top 500...

USA 51
France 23
China 23
Australia 19
Germany 16
Italy 22
Thailand 7
Japan 21
Mexico 4*
GB 12

from here...

live-tennis.eu/wta-live-ranking

*(I suspect that several of the Mexican tournaments are actually laid on for the benefit of the Yankees - the US equivalent of Sharm, etc).

Other notable success stories from countries without loads of 15k+ tournaments...

Russia 38 players in top 500
Romania 15
Czech 24
Slovak 12
Ukraine 20

All ex-Iron Curtain, and often competing against all Eastern Bloc fields in the former USSR/ eastern Europe.
