Looked more like a Futures match to me, in honesty.
just woke up and didnt watch, but to only be able to win 1 point on an opponents first serve out of 24 in the second set implies that Alex probably wasnt at his very best in terms of matchplay and figuring out solutions. i presume Sam Barry isnt Ivo Karlovic or he would have been ranked higher over his many years as a professional
I didn't see this match, but my impression in the bit I did see of Sam Barry's match against Liam Broady was that when Barry's serve is good (and I agree, it's a very high ball toss - wouldn't want to play that way in high wind!), it's quite good indeed. So if he's having a good day, and you're having a tired day, well ...
Sorry it's not a first Challenger final, but still, what a week! Hope they can all get some rest and preparation for grass, and hope that the next few weeks continue the positive momentum.
Alex didn't play very well at all it has to be said but Barry's serve was on it today. Fair play.
If Alex could've kept his nose in front in the second then you never know but that game at *4-2 was dreadful unfortunately and there was only one winner from there.
Is Sam Barry a decent prospect? Or was this just a a good run? He is 24? Ireland have come so close to having a decent top 100 player so many times as of late, Niland, Sorensen, James Magee were all steady challenger players.
