Week 19 - Futures - Italy F9 ($10,000) - Santa Margherita di Pula (clay)

Well done, that youngster !

The guy he beat (Moroni) is also a junior (born 1998) and was JWR 33 (and got up to ATP 1257 last year).

Add: And his next opponent will be another junior, Tsitsipas, currently JWR 7

With Caspar Rudd (born Dec. 98) also steaming through and putting out the second seed, it's a real junior-fest  smile

Well done to Jay.

R2: (Q) Jay Clarke WR 2122 (CH 1858 14/09/15), age 17, JCH 15 beat (WC) Gian Marco Moroni (ITA) WR 1713 (CH 1257 20/07/15), age 18, JCH 33 6-3 7-6(1)

QF: (Q) Jay Clarke WR 2122 (CH 1858 14/09/15), age 17, JCH 15 vs (4) Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE) WR 437 (=CH), age 17, JCH 6

For now triples his ranking points from 1 to 3 and will thus take out his CH.

The Greek youngster has taken the first set 6-2, but he seems to have transitioned well from juniors to seniors.

In the battle of the 17 year-olds, Jay seems to be putting up a good fight in the second.

He's 3-2* up but has had break points.

In the other junior matches, it's 1-1 today, with the American junior (Blanch) just losing out, but the Norwegian youngster (Ruud) going through, although helped by a retirement.

While watching Jay's match on livescores, I note that there is a doubles match here that was carried over from yesterday with play being suspended last night at 9-9 in the MTB. How tough is that on everyone.

Jay now *3-3

Unfortunately the match went away from Jay after that and he lost 6-2 6-3

But this is still a landmark week for him reaching his first ever QF, so congrats to Jay on a great week.

It rather fizzled out after my previous post :(

QF: (Q) Jay Clarke WR 2122 (CH 1858 14/09/15), age 17, JCH 15 lost to (4) Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE) WR 437 (=CH), age 17, JCH 6 6-2 6-3

But good week, Jay !

Add: you beat me to it, Bob ! But we're both singing off the same hymn sheet smile

Second Add: put the result the wrong way round !
