Mandy gets Arina Rodionova whose excellent from the Ozzy hardcourts hasn't translated well to European clay, in a section of the draw that is seedless, after a late withdrawal.
So the next rankings come out on Mandy's 26th birthday, an age at which female athletes should get to peak physical performance.
After her last outing being a career-best tournament, qualifying for her second-highest MD gives her a shot at some other goodies...
A R1 win would be her 250th ITF MD win, and the extra points would see her level with Laura again, as GB6=.
A R2 win would tie her with Tara as GB4=.
Beating the number 1 seed again, in the QFs, would be a consecutive CH win, be her 300th win including qualifiers, give her a consecutive career best points haul, and take her to a spectacular new CH herself.
Reaching the final would put her close to the old criterion for a Wimbledon MD WC; winning it would make her a high-ranked ALT for the Slams qualifying, and give her a year of competing regularly at this new higher level.
Wow, some research and some dreaming, wimdledont! And there am I thinking Mandy has done well to reach the main draw... Well, will be pleased with the 250th first. It's getting into the 200s ranking rise, that I'd love to see Mandy do soon.
Would be great to see the little cohort currently not that far from the top 300 all storm through into the 200s, OK some of them for starters
Katy, already right on Tara's tail after her R1 win in Japan, might have designs this week on that GB 4 position ( and she'll also be around top 300 with another win ), though I would hope that it is indeed world progression that they are all much more interested in.
