That win for Naomi makes 2016 already her most successful year for total points earned on clay.

Brilliant Naomi. Come on Heather. I'm sorry but more easy points for Laura for winning nothing. How long do we keep saying it will come maybe next time.

The SR will soon be exhausted, and this week, it's only one point for free, and will move her up one place at most. But, I take the general point.

4-6 2-6 for Laura I actually see as quite encouraging. Chrissy is best on clay, and the scoreline is easily within the range that any qualifying match between players there on their earned ranking could expect. A difference, by sets, of one break and then two breaks, shows again that she's not completely out of her depth here, which certainly has looked the case up until the last couple of months.
I'll take that as steady, if unspectacular, progression, and just wait for the next thrilling installment, and hope the trend continues upwards.

Laura lost 4 and 2. Only gets a point.

Edit:ISF just beat me to it there.

The general trend to my mind is clearly up, although we would all love things to happen quicker and plenty to work hard on, and dinnae blame Laura for the WTA points system.

Scandalously only getting a point keeps her behind Katy Dunne

By the way, Laura's proximity in rankings to such as Tara, Katy, Freya and Amanda and recent performances certainly doesn't suggest to me that she is overranked at all as I've recently seen suggested, however many of her points have arisen. Anyway, all will settle down in time.

Gets the break back, come on Heather! Bring it home! At least give Naomi some competition on clay

And breaks! Hopefully she's decided she's already made a meal of this one, and now just want the check. Waiter!

Well, not entirely convincing, and I suspect a racquet or two may have been unceremoniously 'retired', but Hev gets there in the end.
6-3 2-6 6-3

Two with a chance to make MD; let's hope to get at least one this week.

Fun fact, Naomi now has a higher CH win on clay than the Britsh #1!

Best Clay wins by recent Brits.
Laura: WR 4 - Agnieszka Radwanska - Madrid R32, 2013
Bally: WR 34 - Sorana Cirstea - Strasbourg R32, 2010
Annie K: WR 40 - Carla Suarez Navarro - Fes R16, 2010
Heather: WR 44 - Robert Vinci - Rome R64, 2015 - Her only result better than Naomi's today
Naomi B: WR 71 - Saisai Zheng - Rome Q, 2016
JoKo : WR 88 - Yulia Putintseva - Oeiras Q, 2013
Katie O'B: WR 95 - Pauliine Parmentier - Fes R32, 2010

Blustery conditions in Rome today, with 16kmh winds, so a lot of players strugling to get 50% first serves.

Q seeds 1+2 have tough first round draws, so Heather could end up as a lucky loser again, if she can't beat Konjuh, her next date.
